Why Subaru Impreza with Eyesight, does not have HOLD feature

Why Subaru Impreza with Eyesight, does not have HOLD feature (as Legacy, Outback …)?
Eyesight HOLD it is a good feature used when adaptive cruise control is enabled and the car in front has a complete stop (not emergency stop). After a complete stop, on Impreza the adaptive cruise control it will be disabled in 3 sec, on Legacy the HOLD feature will handle better the situation.

  1. You are correct that it seems to be a worse implementation on the Impreza and Crosstek where the adaptive cruise will only hold the complete stop for 3 seconds, then release, causing the car to start creeping forward.

    I know on my 2016 Legacy, the adaptive cruise “holds” the car until the driver does something. My car beeps when the car in front moves away and then I either need to tap the gas pedal, or push the adaptive cruise button up to resume it.

    I’m wondering in the real world how problematic it is? If I had the Impreza, I would probably put my foot on the brake until the car in front moves (what other choice is there?). At that point, I’d re-engage the adaptive cruise. The only downside is that I’d have to put my foot on the brake until the car in front moves. In either car, you still have to re-engage the adaptive cruise once the car comes to a stop. I think the Legacy / Outback does seem to have the better implementation and it seems it should be an easy change to make in the system software. If I come across an explanation from someone, I’ll share it here.

  2. You are right: “The only downside is that I’d have to put my foot on the brake until the car in front moves.”
    But to me this is just software diff, because:
    – Impreza Eyesight can do a complete stop for 3 sec;
    – Impreza Eyesight will beep when the car in front will advance.
    – Impreza Eyesight when the car in front moves away in less than 3 sec, to resume it: either need to tap the gas pedal, or push the adaptive cruise button up
    Why not a complete stop for more than 3 sec (like HOLD)? It is only software! For sure here it looks like it is not a big deal, but in stop&go traffic every day, it will make a big diff about the driver comfort. I have paid about 30000$ for Impreza with Eyesight, and realized that I miss this HOLD feature.

    Could be also a safety issue also. Imagine you drive for months a Subaru Legacy Eyesight using HOLD feature, then one day you switch to (e.g. your wife car) Subaru Impreza Eyesight!

    Thank you for sharing your opinion

    Any idea if it is possible to have a Eyesight software upgrade, even if I have to pay?
    Or, it will be possible to configure instead of 3 sec to 5 or 10 sec (it will be a big difference)?
